Why we worry
Learning intention. To understand how worry can affect us.
Success criteria. To learn strategies to cope with worry and fears.
We all have a survival part of our brain that’s designed to help us stay safe. When it can’t get us safe, it never signals the body to relax and release the peaceful healing chemicals that follow a fear episode. And so we live in a state of tension that stiffens our muscles. This tension can be as slight as increased worry, or it can be as severe as a panic attack.
Fear energy is not only destructive, it spreads. Not only do we manufacture it without thinking about it, but we can catch it from others. We all pick up a lot of fear when we read about scary things online or talk about fearful things with others. To stay in such a state of constant tension is a strain on the body and mind. Too much can wear down our mental and physical health.
The good news is that there are many ways to beat fear.
Worry is a useless activity.
If the brain is worrying, it means it doesn’t have a solution. If it doesn’t have a solution, it goes round and round, creating more fear. When you catch yourself worrying, be free to just turn it off—Think of something else:
We can control our brains. We can train the brain out of fear thinking.

- Create a thought that comforts you and repeat it over and over instead of thinking. This is especially effective with restless nights. Lull yourself to sleep by repeating a positive phrase.
- Find positive people that you trust. Share your worry. They might have some great advice to help the worry go away.

Emotions 101 Part 1 Worried, Angry, Calm, Happy, Sad, Brave, Proud, Scared
Learning intention: To understand how different emotions and feelings are connected.
Success Criteria: To be able to expand our range of words to describe our emotions
Here are a few basic things about emotions: Emotions come and go.
Most of us feel many different emotions throughout the day. Some last just a few seconds. Others might hang around to become a mood. Emotions can be mild, intense, or anywhere in between. The intensity of an emotion can depend on the situation and on the person.
There are no good or bad emotions, but there are good and bad ways of expressing (or acting on) emotions. Learning how to express and manage emotions in acceptable ways is a skill. (Are we going to be annoyed all day because someone borrowed our pencil sharpener without returning it.)
Share your feelings with the people closest to you. This is the best way to practice putting emotions into words, a skill that helps us feel closer to friends and parents. Make it a daily practice to share feelings with a friend or family member. You could share something that's quite personal or something that's simply an everyday emotion.

Emotions 101
Part 2: Disappointed, Confused, Lonely, Shame, Guilty, Embarrassed, Excited, Confident
Learning intention: To understand how different emotions and feelings are connected.
Success Criteria: To be able to expand our range of words to describe our emotions.
Today we are exploring another 8 emotions. Wow we have so many.
Emotional awareness helps us know and accept ourselves. So how can you become more aware of your emotions?
Make a habit of tuning in to how you feel in different situations throughout the day. You might notice that you feel excited after making plans to do something with a friend. Or that you feel nervous before a test. You might be relaxed when listening to music, inspired by an art exhibit, or pleased when a friend gives you a compliment. Simply notice whatever emotion you feel, then name that emotion in your mind. It only takes a second to do this, but it's great practice. Notice that each emotion passes and makes room for the next experience. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYfRzAIl7TQ

Learning Intention: to use visual clues to identify feelings
Success Criteria: I can connect facial expressions to emotions
Knowing how you feel is one thing.
But knowing how someone else is feeling is a lot harder.
Especially if they are silent.
One way to guess how someone is feeling is to look at their body language. Are their shoulders droopy? Are they slumped in a chair? Or jumping up and down? This might be your first clue.
Another way to tell is by looking at their eyes, mouth and even their noses.
A facial expression can reveal a lot about how someone is feeling.
